Tile grout cracking or looking old and dirty? Here’s how you can replace it. You’ll need to remove the existing grout to create a space for the new grout. This is a labor-intensive job! Use a grout removal tool called a grout rake, or I prefer to use an electric tool known as an oscillating multi tool
with a grout removal blade
on it. Once all of the old grout is removed, you should vacuum out all the dust and debris and then wipe the surface with a wet sponge
. After mixing the new grout to the recommended consistency, apply it over the area with a grout float
making sure that all the voids are evenly filled with grout. Work one small area at a time and then wipe it clean with a wet sponge. For wall tiles, you’ll need non-sanded grout
and for floor tiles you’ll use sanded grout
. Grout is available in many colors so be sure to choose one that works well with your tile. This may be a dirty and tedious job, but once it’s complete, your tile will look like new again!
