Tile grout cracking or looking old and dirty? Here’s how you can replace it. You’ll need to remove the existing grout to create a space for the new grout. This is a labor-intensive job! Use a grout removal tool called a grout rake, or I prefer to use an electric tool known as an oscillating multi tool with a grout removal blade on it. Once all of the old grout is removed, you should vacuum out all the dust and debris and then wipe the surface with a wet sponge. After mixing the new grout to the recommended consistency, apply it over the area with a grout float making sure that all the voids are evenly filled with grout. Work one small area at a time and then wipe it clean with a wet sponge. For wall tiles, you’ll need non-sanded grout and for floor tiles you’ll use sanded grout. Grout is available in many colors so be sure to choose one that works well with your tile. This may be a dirty and tedious job, but once it’s complete, your tile will look like new again!
